Ergonomics requires that designs of "man-machine-environment¡±"systems meet the physiological and psychological characteristics of human beings to achieve the optimal match between the three and thus to attain the goals of "efficiency, safety, healthiness and comfortableness". Ergonomics helps to enhance corporate efficiency, improves quality of life and is is an effective tool for the making of "people oriented" society.
Key areas of research in the field of ergonomics at CNIS include fundamental application research and standardization research for the following: anthropometry and human body modeling, biomechanics, product usability, ergonomics for human-system interactive, accessible design, ergonomics for physical environment, ergonomics of human cognition, and technical specification for ergonomics evaluation of products; development of a national ergonomics data center; construction of a national ergonomics lab as a robust state-of-the-art ergonomic standardization experiment and research platform; research, development and revision of national and international ergonomics standards; serving as the secretariat of SAC/TC7; and representing China for ISO/TC159.
Ergonomics standardization is one of the most important research fields on fundamental standardization at CNIS. In the past two decades, CNIS has sponsored development of more than 50 national ergonomics standards, has undertaken more than 30 ergonomics research projects and won 6 awards from our government (ministry level or above). Our efforts have significantly promoted development of ergonomics standardization in China. The fixed assets of ergonomics laboratory are worth more than two million RMB.
