As an essential element of the core competitiveness of a country, standards are a key technical regime that regulates economic and social development. Standards are more and more urgently required in China since its reform and opening-up of the country, especially since its accession to the WTO. In recent years, standardization has been playing a more and more critical fundamental and support role in promoting technical advancements, regulating market order, improving product competitiveness and promoting international trade and many other fields. A state-level non-profit research institution and a key research and development base of China's key fundamental standards and method standards, CNIS undertakes the important mission to develop research on standardization in China. Under the leadership of the AQSIQ and SAC, with the support of ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission, and guided by Deng Xiao-ping Theory and the important thought of the Three Represents, CNIS is advancing with the times and pursuing innovation and implementing the outlook of scientific development. We will enhance building of our task force and integrate resources from the society to improve our standardization research level, standards drafting and revision capability and market service capability. At the same time, we will continue to expand our scope of work and enhance development of our standardization experiment and validation capability. We are poised to increase our substantive involvement in international standardization activities and make our contribution to China's national economic development and social progress. Our goal is to turn CNIS into a first-class research institution in China and an internationally acclaimed research institution in the nearest future.
